2024 has already been a pivotal year for Good Morning’s Stefan Blair and Liam Parson. The Australian “soft rock band” released their seventh project (an ambitious double LP aptly titled Good Morning Seven), opened for Waxahatchee and Frankie Cosmos in the US, and celebrated a decade together as a duo. Despite these career highs, in retrospect, there was an air of cynicism and practicality-induced worry underlying the album’s rollout.

Back in March, the Australian duo Good Morning released a double LP called Good Morning Seven. Today, they’ve announced they already have another new album coming the day after Thanksgiving, with one caveat: It might be their last. The eight-minute lead single “Soft Rock Band” is out now.

The cult-favorite singer-songwriter Margo Guryan passed away in 2021, and now a bunch of young indie acts are covering her songs on the forthcoming Sub Pop tribute compilation Like Someone I Know. Today, Empress Of’s version of “Someone I Know” is out with a music video directed by Sabrina Nichols.

In a few weeks, the Australian duo Good Morning are releasing a new full-length album, a double LP called Good Morning Seven. They’ve shared a bunch of singles from it so far, mostly in pairs, the most recent being “Just In Time” and “Ahhhh (This Isn’t Ideal).” Today, they’re putting out two more, “Excalibur” and “Toy,” two dreamy, laidback cuts.

The Polyvinyl-signed partnership of Liam Parsons and Stefan Blair are about to release the 17-song, 51-minute Good Morning Seven, so named because it’s their seventh LP (duh). A bunch of those songs have already been released — “Dog Years,” “Queen Of Comedy,” “One Night,” “Real I’m Told” — and two more are out today. “Just In Time” and the enjoyable titled “Ahhhh (This Isn’t Ideal)” continue to show off Good Morning’s gift for lush retro pop balladry that reminds me Abbey Road deep cuts, Kings Of Convenience, Whitney, Magnetic Fields, Wilco, and the like. It’s drowsy, melodious pop-rock, magnificently rendered with a gentle touch. It’ll probably be splendid to watch these guys open for Waxahatchee this year.

After announcing their signing to Polyvinyl with two singles last spring, Australian duo Good Morning have announced their first album for the label. The forthcoming Barnyard follows 2019’s Basketball Breakup, and its lead single “Country” is out today. It’s a melancholy indie-rock ballad with cutting lyrics: “The only thing about missing you/ Is that I don’t miss you at all.”
